Ad IDEM/Canadian Media Lawyers Association congratulates the winners of its inaugural annual prize: Senator Claude Carignan (Senate of Canada) and Patrick Bourbeau (La Presse Directeur des Affaires juridiques) for their promotion and protection of freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Canada, particularly in the legal sphere, and in particular, for their work towards the successful and historic enactment of the Journalistic Sources Protection Act (Bill S‐231).

Ad IDEM/CMLA, the largest media lawyer organisation in Canada, is dedicated to the promotion and protection of freedom of expression throughout Canada. Our objective is “to reaffirm every day, in every court in our country, the importance of these freedoms.”

The Freedom of Expression Award is granted annually to an individual or individuals who have promoted and protected freedom of expression and freedom of the press in Canada, particularly in the legal sphere. The award may be based on individual actions, or a lifetime of contributions to the cause. Both lawyers and non-lawyers are eligible.
