Johnson c. Arcand

Former Quebec premier Daniel Johnson and his wife (Suzanne Marcil) were awarded $534,000 in damages and costs for defamation by radio host André Arthur.

The award consists of $60,000 in moral damages to each of the plaintiffs, $200,000 in punitive damages to Mr. Johnson, $100,000 in punitive damages to Mrs. Johnson and $114,000 for extra-judicial costs.

The directors of the corporation owning the radio station were also found to be personally liable for all damages.
